Order : Comatulida
Biology : Feather stars are distant relatives of sea urchins, they have existed for over 400 million years. This is quite a sedentary species. However, they can walk on the seafloor or even swim in open water under unfavorable conditions.
They are filter feeders, and swallow all particles flowing past them, including plankton, sediments, and even grains of sand. Feather stars are almost entirely made up of limestone, thereby they hardly have predators.
They are known to shelter many animals; indeed, numerous crustaceans and some fishes inhabit their arms.
